PLAZA
PLAZA is a site-specific performance that takes place inside a produce warehouse in Allapattah. It’s a site-piece performance that is inspired by the social and economic forces that envelop a neighborhood which is increasingly faced with erasure and displacement caused by gentrification. PLAZA is intrinsically tied to images of the world of labor, tasks and repetition and brings to the foreground the site's connection to community and shared history. A cast of eight dancers animate and engage with the objects and machinery within the warehouse to a score of popular Latin music, merging to become part of a unified kinetic and sound landscape.
* Plaza's premiere was commissioned by the Pioneer Winter Collective and its site-specific performance initiative Grass Stains, supported by the John and James L. Knight Foundation, as well as the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
